JUDAS IN YOU 3
TO TEMPTATION AND BEYOND…

Our humanity when not exposed to God will lead you to create you own gods…

Judas had the best intent…
Judas perhaps thought he was helping the cause…
He could have believed that it wasn’t so bad because Jesus could fix anything…

__________________________________________________________

But he missed it!

Why Did He Do It?

Why did I do that?

I cant believe I said that or I did the other…

__________________________________________________________

Betray (def): To unintentionally or deliberately reveal…

__________________________________________________________

Unintentionally display our humanity = mistakes

Deliberately allow our humanity and its desire to control us = sin.
Repeated unchecked mistakes lead to planned sin…
Sin makes us plan to sin again

__________________________________________________________

HUMAN MISTAKES – expose them to God and He will turn those things into strengths

HUMAN SINFULNESS – expose them to God and He will humble you not by revealing your weakness but by loving you through grace and forgiveness…
__________________________________________________________

1 JOHN 1:9
But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them,[he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
__________________________________________________________

We don’t admit mistakes and sins over and over, we bring our sinful nature to him (expose our humanity) over and over so that he can forgive and help us avoid unrighteousness…

Because of Christ – we have been declared righteous.

IN PLANNING

Mark 14:10-11
“Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went off to the chief priests to hand [Jesus] over to them. When they heard him, they were pleased, and promised to pay him money. Then he looked for an opportunity to hand him over” (Mark 14:10-11)

To allow the thoughts of wrongdoing to convince you of its righteousness.

To allow the short sighted selfishness to convince you that there is little wrong in wrong doing…

CAMBRIDGE BIBLE FOR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES
Then entered Satan into Judas] No other expression seems adequately to explain his wickedness. It began in avarice, disappointment, and jealousy; and, when he had long weakened his soul by indulgence in these dark, besetting sins, the imaginary loss of the “300 pence” of which he would have had the disposal (John 12:4-5; Mark 14:10), — the now undisguised announcement of our Lord that He should be not only rejected, but crucified (Matthew 20:19)—the consequent shattering of all Messianic hopes—the growing sense that he was becoming distasteful to his Master and his fellows—the open rebuke which he had drawn on his own head by his hypocritic greed at Bethany (John 12:6)—the rumoured hostility of all the most venerated authorities of the nation—all these formed the climax of his temptations:—and then, at last, the tempting opportunity met the susceptible disposition. “Instead of dominion—service; instead of power—per-secution; instead of honour—shame; this was all that was left of his hopes and prospects once so brilliant.” His crime was but the epitome of months—perhaps years—of secret faithlessness.

TEMPTATION
BARNES
We may learn, also, that when Satan “tempts” people, he commonly does it by exciting and raising to the highest pitch their native passions. He does not make them act contrary to their nature, but leads them on to “act out” their proper disposition.

Temptation is not sin.

If temptation were indeed sin, then Jesus would not have led a sinless life. But as the Bible says, Jesus was “tempted in all things,” yet without sin.

Hebrews. 4:15
He understands humanity, for as a Man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin.

Temptation is one of the enemy’s most powerful “schemes” for misleading God’s people

ITS A THOUGHT RESPONSE TO A GIVEN SITUATION

Ephesians 6:11
Put on God’s complete set of armor[a] provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser!

ADAM AND EVE – Did God Really Say?
__________________________________________________________

It causes us to focus on the “passing pleasures” of sin instead of the rich rewards of serving God with a pure heart.
__________________________________________________________
Hebrews 11:25
…choosing instead to suffer mistreatment with the people of God. Moses preferred faith’s certainty above the momentary enjoyment of sin’s pleasures.
__________________________________________________________

ITS A THOUGHT RESPONSE TO A GIVEN SITUATION

Thought comes to mind

Check it – Of God – Plant it
Check it – Not of God – eject it

Mark 4 – give it the soil it deserves!
__________________________________________________________

Don’t put a layer on it and let it rest in the tissues of your fertile mind…
Don’t allow a piece of dirt to be transformed in your treacherous mind into a pearl (Make a God out your own humanity)

The insertion of a thought that could lead to wrongdoing is called temptation…

The given situation may or may not be sinful: Thats all about your thoughts – your decision!!!
__________________________________________________________

LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

We are praying then not to have our mind – but the mind of Christ who overcame every temptation.

He is always tempting you with grace not sin…

1 Corinthians 10:13
We all experience[a] times of testing,[b] which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face[c] so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape[d] that will bring you out of it victoriously.[e]

Temptation is a thought – His seed of thought will never lead us towards judgement but always towards the grace and the power to escape to life…

Fleeting or Floating Thoughts
__________________________________________________________

ALREADY DONE IT?

Mistake or Sin – it just would have better if you didn’t do it…

The consequence is going to need to be handled…
__________________________________________________________

BAD CONSEQUENCE MANAGEMENT ALWAYS LEADS TO MORE SIN

Thought —-> Sin
Sin. —-> Remorse
Remorse —-> Shame
Shame —-> Anger/resentment/rebellion – everything good in your life drives you away
Anger —-> Resolve/Regret
Resolve/Regret—-> Just do it again…
__________________________________________________________

GOOD CONSEQUENCE MANAGEMENT ALWAYS LEADS TO FREEDOM

Thought —-> Sin
Sin. —-> Remorse
Remorse —-> Repentance
Repentance —-> Jesus
Jesus —-> Grace
Grace —-> Forgiveness
Forgiveness —-> Freedom and Wholeness
__________________________________________________________

Wholeness – not defined by the consequence but by Christ…
__________________________________________________________
Confess to God – forgiveness

1 John 1:9
But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them,[a] he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.[b]
__________________________________________________________
Confess to others – healing

James 5:16
Confess and acknowledge how you have offended one another[a] and then pray for one another to be instantly healed,[b] for tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer[c] of a godly believer!
__________________________________________________________

Freedom to talk to God about it (Vulnerability without the fear of hurt or judgement – Forgiveness)

Wholeness to openly discuss it with friends that love God more than you (Transparency made possible by the cleaning out by Jesus)
