Victory Life Church — Sunday, July 13, 2025

Scripture Reading

Psalm 105:1–5 (ESV) 1 Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! 2  Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! 3  Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! 4  Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! 5  Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,

Jubilee: Celebration and Calibration

Jubilee is a time of Calibration, listening for the direction of the Lord. (Genesis 22:9-12)

Genesis 22:1-2 (ESV) After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

Genesis 22:9-12 (ESV) When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

Jubilee is a time of Calibration, listening for the direction of the Lord. (Genesis 22:9-12)

We cannot make God speak, we can obey what God has already said, and we can affect our ability to listen.

Psalm 105:3–4 (ESV) 3  Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! 4  Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Calibration: Seeking the face of God in order to hear His voice and be aligned with HIs will

2 Chronicles 12:14 (ESV) And he did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the Lord.

2 Chronicles 12:14 (NLT) But he was an evil king, for he did not seek the Lord with all his heart.

Psalm 81:8–16 (ESV)8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me! 9 There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god. 10 I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. 11 “But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. 13 Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! 14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes. 15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever. 16 But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

Psalm 27:4, 8 (ESV) 4  One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple…. 8  You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Matthew 5:8 (ESV) “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

Our eyes and ears are opened by seeking God’s face.
