What’s Your Response?
#1) God’s Word demands a response:
Ex. Lord if that’s you, “Bid me come.” (Matt. 14:28)
Bid/Command
Jesus said: Mark 4:9, “He who has ear to hear, let him hear!”
Not just a mental activity
Jewish mindset: Shema “Hear and obey / take action, take heed, do what is asked.”
Ex. Clean up your room
The Sower Sows the Word
#2) Mark chpt. 4 AND Matt. chpt 13
Verse 9) Let him who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Verse 13) “And he said to them, Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
The Four Ways you and I respond to hearing God’s Word!!
#1) Wayside Soil:
Soil that doesn’t receive the word:
It’s hard ground
They don’t understand it
Satan comes immediately to steal the word difficult word!
Our response must be a willingness to ASK QUESTIONS and RECEIVE the word!
#2) Stony Soil:
Immediately receives the word with Joy/Enthusiasm
It has no root “In itself.”
When persecution and tribulation come, “For the word’s sake,” They wither, stumble.
Our response must be to get ourselves ROOTED and Grounded!
#3) Soil with thorns: The Message Bible, “The seed cast in the weeds represents the ones who hear the kingdom news but are overwhelmed with worries about all the things they have to do and all the things they want to get. The stress strangles what they heard, and nothing comes of it.”
Hear the word
Cares of the world
The deceitfulness of riches
The desire for other things
Choke the word, and it “The Word “becomes unfruitful
Our response must be to keep our heart focused on things that have eternal value!
#4) The Good soil:
Hears the word
Understands it
Produces some 30, some 60, some 100 fold
Our response is to tend the soil!
Continually pulling the weeds
Making sure that the Word gets proper amounts of Water and sufficient Sun/Son!
